For her 8th birthday, my daughter made my mommy heart flutter when she asked for a Harry Potter themed Birthday Party. If you know me, you know I’m a huge Harry Potter fan. So of course, I said YES!

Decorations
This party was probably the easiest party to put up decorations for. Mostly everything was printed from the internet. And, we inherited the house banners, the wanted poster cutout, and a banner from a friend who’s son had just done a Harry Potter party. She’s amazingly talented and her decorations were amazing!

You can’t have a Harry Potter themed party without being sorted into houses. I got this cute Sorting Hat from Amazon.

Each guest entered the party at Platform 9 and 3/4. This wall was super fun and super easy to make. You just get a blank sheet (which we purchased at a thrift store) and you create the bricks by dipping sponges in red paint and stamping them onto the sheet. Just be sure to take better precautions than I did and put something under the sheet to protect your carpets. Oops! The sign was printed online.

As guests entered they were greeted by an eerie message that “The Chamber of Secrets has been opened.” I created this message using chalk markers.

Food
Party food is always hard for me because I struggle between wanting to make it as easy on myself as possible and being authentic to our party theme. We had our main dish, pizza, which I named “Muggle Food”. Not going to lie, I was patting myself on the back for my cleverness here.

Sides included Deathly Hallow Chips (aka Dorito chips), Vegetables from Professor Sprout’s garden, Dragon Scales (known to muggles as ruffles chips), and Olivander’s Fruit Wands.

Party Games
We only had one party game. It was a scavenger hunt which I found here. This was super easy to prepare. I printed out the clues, hid them and they played to win a golden egg.

Party Cake and Treats
No party is complete without a cake. I normally buy a cake because my cake skills are, frankly, nonexistent. But you guys! This cake was so easy to make. It is a box cake baked into 9 inch rounds. Stack them on top of each other and apply icing. Messing up and imperfection is encouraged. Remember, this is the cake that Hagrid sat on, it’s not supposed to be pretty.

As a bonus we did a candy bar for the kids which included some snitches, chocolate frogs, candied worms, and Berti Bott’s every flavor beans.

All in all, I would say that this Harry Potter themed party was my best one yet! I enjoyed every minute of it (and I usually don’t enjoy party planning).I would love to hear how your Harry Potter party went and if you guys did anything fun that I didn’t do.
