Today’s gift ideas are for anyone in your life that enjoys spending time outdoors. What I love about this gift category is that a lot of these things can be free. I also love that it combines well with giving of your time. Here are some of my favorite ideas for giving the gift of the outdoors this year.

1. Firepit

I love this because it is a gift that gives all year round. Pair with some graham crackers and marshmallows for a future s’mores night.

2. Camping equipment

Camping is a tradition that I have loved since I was a little girl. Now that I’m older, I love doing it with my own family.

3. Local sight seeing/Day Trips/Weekend Getaways

When is the last time you played tourist in your own backyard? Gift someone the experience of being a tourist in their hometown. Whether it’s going on some fun hikes, or booking a weekend at a local hotel. The sky’s the limit with this gift. Drive within a couple hours of your home and make a day or weekend trip out of it.

4. Geocaching

My kids love geocaching. The best part is this is free! Gather up some random treasures, download the app, and go around town finding and exchanging treasure!

5. Family bikes and gear

Get bikes for the people in your family and then start going on family bike rides. I love this idea because it combines the gift of outdoors with the gift of time.

6. Tickets to oudoor plays

I’ve never been to an outdoor play! But this would be such a cool gift to receive. Have you ever been to one? I would love to hear your recommendations. Let me know in the comments.

5. Fishing trips

For kids, this could be something as simple as finding a lake or a river nearby and going. I also know that there are some special fishing trips where you charter a boat and it’s a whole experience. So no matter the level of fishing skill, there’s something for everyone. There’s something super cool about catching a fish.

6. Other ideas:

  • Ziplining: I did this when I was in college in Hawaii and it was such a fun experience! I really need to do it again and totally recommend it as a fun outdoors gift.
  • Tickets to sports games: I love a good sporting event and would totally be happy with tickets to a basketball or a baseball game.
  • Rafting
  • National Parks Tickets
