Today’s gift category is probably the one I’m most excited about: the gift of reading. There is nothing quite like a book that takes you away to a different world. It’s inspiring enough to make one want to create their own world. Below are some gift ideas for reading.

Reading Gifts

A new book/book series

This is the obvious gift idea for book lovers. Book series’ are great as well because it allows your reader to binge on the books they enjoy. I personally love middle-grade fantasy, WWII historical fiction, and self-help books. These are a few of my favorites over the years.

  • Harry Potter – This was the series that made me fall in love with reading again. So obviously it deserves a spot on here.
  • Keeper of the Lost Cities – Harry Potter also ruined me for other books until I came across this series. Such a great series. I can’t wait for the last book to come out so I can buy the whole series and re-read them.
  • The Land of Stories – I love a good retelling of the Disney stories I loved as a child. This is such a fun series
  • Lovely War – This isnt technically a WWII story. It’s a WWI story. The twist is that it’s told from the perspective of the Greek Gods, Aphrodite, Ares and Apollo. Hades and Hephastus even make appearances. It’s so good.
  • The Girl you Left Behind – I think this is another WWI book. But it. is. AMAZING! A friend read it on my recommendation, and you guys! The conversation we had around the many topics in this book was just amazing. Probably one of the best I’ve had this year. Highly recommend.

Magazine subscription

Maybe you have someone who isn’t a big reader. A fun magazine might be a good way to help them get reading. Plus, how fun it would be to have something to look forward to every year. Do you like reading magazines? What are your favorite ones?

Booklight

Remember when you were a kid and you would stay up late to read under the covers with a flashlight? This one that you wear around your neck is on my Christmas list this year and it looks super cool.

Kindle

In 2017, I bought myself a Kindle paperwhite reader after many years of being anti digital books. It very quickly became one of my favorite purchases ever. My favorite thing about it is that I can read at night without having to hold up a heavy book and a flashlight. My second favorite thing is that it can hold a ton of books. This was especially helpful for traveling. I could carry 5 books on one sleek device rather than 5 bulky books in my suitcase.

I would love to hear more of your suggestions for the gift of reading. What was the best book you ever got as a gift?
